Once upon a time in the Tamil cinema industry…

During a discussion about the song on the set of the movie Apoorva Raagangal, K. Balachander was talking to the music director M.S. Viswanathan (MSV). Kamal Haasan, the film’s hero, was also present, busy with various tasks related to the shoot.

Balachander asked MSV, “Shall we go for the song rehearsal?” MSV, nervously rubbing his hands, replied, “Can we schedule it for tomorrow?” His hesitation was that the song lyrics hadn’t been completed yet, which made Balachander furious.

“What do you expect me to do? How long should we wait just because it’s a famous poet?” Balachander shouted. MSV tried to calm him down. Kamal Haasan and the scriptwriter Ananthu informed Balachander that the poet (Kannadasan) was upstairs, fast asleep.

“Oh, great! Should I cancel the shoot and go to sleep too?” Balachander snapped in anger.

Kannadasan, who was half asleep, had overheard everything. After MSV left, an hour passed. Still irritated, Balachander said, “Check if he’s awake… Ask him to write something… I can’t do everything myself… If he’s here, won’t he write?”
